Psychotheraputic Counselling for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.

As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I offer a grounded and compassionate space where clients can explore their inner world, make sense of their experiences, and move toward lasting, meaningful change. My work is underpinned by a strong belief in autonomy and empowerment, supporting individuals to reconnect with their own capacity for clarity, choice, and direction.

My approach is rooted in Transactional Analysis (TA), a model I’ve trained in intensively over four years at the Connexus Institute in Brighton. TA offers a robust and proven framework through which to understand how we relate to ourselves and others, revealing patterns in thinking, feeling, and behaviour that often stem from early relational experiences. I have a particular interest in script beliefs: the unconscious life decisions and expectations we carry from childhood that can shape our mental health, relationships, careers, and sense of self as adults. I am also drawn to how these beliefs manifest somatically, which has led me to explore physiological modalities such as Polyvagal Therapy.

Adam Walker Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, DCounsPsych, MNCPS Acc

My work is fully supervised, and I maintain a keen commitment to my own personal development and education in psychotherapy. This is not only a professional commitment but a personal one. Over the course of a 30-year career in corporate management, I came to recognise that meaningful and lasting change often begins when individuals are met with understanding during times of distress and challenge. Many people arrive at therapy during times of inner difficulty or disconnection, when familiar ways of coping or relating no longer feel effective or aligned with their sense of self. My own transition into psychotherapy was shaped by a deep respect for this process—the courage it takes to reflect, re-evaluate, and move towards change. I believe that through a relational and attuned therapeutic space, individuals can access their own insight, resilience, and capacity for meaningful change. This perspective, grounded in both personal and clinical experience, informs the way I now work with clients as they engage in their own process of developing a meaningful, sustainable, and connected sense of self..

My approach

My approach is integrative and relational, drawing on a range of therapeutic models to respond to the unique needs and context of each person I work with. I work with clients in a way that respects their pace, staying present to what emerges in the room—emotionally, verbally, and somatically. Whether someone is navigating distress, disruption, or a period of change, the work offers space to move toward greater awareness, self-agency, and connection.

A safe and supportive environment

As a skilled psychotherapeutic counsellor trained in Transactional Analysis, I offer a compassionate, client-centered approach that places the client's unique experiences and needs at the core of the therapeutic process. I provide a safe, calm, and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and life patterns in your own way and at your own pace.

Supporting your journey

Whether the focus is on developing deeper self-awareness, healing from past experiences, or navigating a period of transition, the space is yours to use in the way that best supports your journey.

Your path. Your pace. A safe space for healing, growth and self-reflection.

How can Psychotherapeutic Counselling help you

Life brings times of uncertainty, disruption, or emotional strain and distress, and it's natural to seek support when things feel unclear or out of balance. As a Psychotherapeutic counsellor, my role is to offer a safe, reflective space where you can explore your experience, how it affects you, and reconnect with what matters to you and how you relate to it. Together, we can explore your experience in a way that invites new awareness—and perhaps a clearer sense of yourself. Counselling isn’t about offering advice or solutions but about supporting you to make your own choices with greater clarity and confidence.

Key areas Psychotherapeutic Counselling can help with

Frequently asked questions

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Everything that is said within the counselling room is private - this is one of the main ways counselling and therapy differ from talking to a friend or relative. Once you are comfortable with the format of weekly sessions and the safe space they provide, you will find the freedom to speak in confidence is of great value.

Note that there are some situations where you may be a risk to yourself or others, and there the law requires that I notify an authority; in these cases I may not be able to keep total confidentiality. Breaking confidentiality is very rare though, and only happens after the person concerned has been informed.

How do I know if therapy is working?

Therapy can unfold in subtle or significant ways. You might begin to notice changes in how you relate to others, respond to challenges, or make sense of your experience. We’ll regularly check in on the process, and our initial agreement—what you hope to achieve in therapy—can be reviewed and adjusted as your needs change.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

That’s completely okay. Therapy doesn’t require you to come with prepared topics. We can begin wherever you are—even if that means simply acknowledging that you're unsure. Often, meaningful insights emerge naturally through this process.

How long will I need to have counselling?

How long a period of counselling lasts will vary from person to person and depend on the depth of the issues they are facing. For some people a couple of sessions helps to bring their problems into focus, and they feel ready to move forward; other problems may require more of an open-ended approach.

Before we begin any work we will agree on the number of sessions we’ll undertake, and at the end of that number review our progress. As long as we both agree further therapy will be of benefit to you, sessions can continue.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

My aim is to offer a first appointment - known as an initial assessment - within 1-2 weeks. Then we would arrange a set number of counselling sessions to take place at the same time every week, that is convenient for you and where I have availabity. How quickly these sessions can begin will depend on the availabity of that free ‘slot’.
